De-blurred Time-Frequency Distributions Using Neural Networks TIME-FREQUENCY ANALYSIS USING NEURAL NETWORKS.
The description of the methods used for TFDs' objective assessment is provided later in this part. In the second part, a novel multi-processes neural network based framework to obtain highly concentrated TFDs is proposed. The propose method utilizes a localised Bayesian regularised neural network model (BRNNM) to obtain the energy concentration along the instantaneous frequencies (IFs) of individual components in the multicomponent signals without assuming any prior knowledge. The third part presents the discussion on the experimental results obtained by the proposed technique. Moreover the framework is extended to include the various objective methods of assessment to evaluate the performance of de-blurred TFDs obtained through the proposed technique. The work in this monograph is divided in three parts. In the first part, it explores and discusses the diversity of concepts and motivations for obtaining good resolution and highly concentrated time- frequency distributions (TFDs) for the research community.

Online and Adaptive Signature Learning for Intrusion Detection. An Application of Genetic Based Machine Learning
The two major criticisms of the signature based intrusion detection systems are their i) reliance on domain experts to handcraft intrusion signatures and ii) inability to detect previously unknown attacks or the attacks for which no signatures are available at the time. In this thesis, we present a biologically-inspired computational approach to address these two issues. This is done by adaptively learning maximally general rules, which are referred to as signatures, from network traffic through a supervised learning classifier system. The rules are learnt dynamically (i. e. , using machine intelligence and without the requirement of a domain expert), and adaptively (i. e. , as the data arrives without the need to relearn the complete model after presenting each data instance to the current model). Our approach is hybrid in that signatures for both intrusive and normal behaviours are learnt. This thesis presents the case of dynamically and adaptively learning signatures for network intrusion detection using genetic based machine learning techniques.
