Описание:This book addresses the modeling methodologies and operational strategies for managing integrated diamond interchange ramp-metering traffic control systems. Integrated control strategies were developed based on commonly used phasing schemes for signalized diamond interchanges. Historically, these two elements of the system have operated with little or no coordination between the two. DRIVE incorporated some enhanced modeling methodologies and can perform system analysis in an integrated fashion given a set of system input parameters and variables. System operational characteristics were investigated using DRIVE to gain a better understanding of the system features. Therefore, there is a lack of both analysis tools and operational strategies for considering them as an integrated system. A model named DRIVE (Diamond Interchange and Ramp Metering Integration Via Evaluation) was developed, which was characterized as a mesoscopic simulation and analysis model. Diamond interchanges and their associated ramps are where the surface street arterial system and the freeway system interface.

Real-Time Concepts for Embedded Systems

Consider another example of a real-time system-the cruise missile guidance system. A cruise missile flies at subsonic speed. It can travel at about 10 meters above water, 30 meters above flat ground, and 100 meters above mountain terrains. A modern cruise missile can hit a target within a 50-meter range. All these capabilities are due to the high-precision, real-time guidance system built into the nose of a cruise missile. In a simplified view, the guidance system is comprised of the radar system (both forward-looking and look-down radars), the navigation system, and the divert-and-altitude-control system. The navigation system contains digital maps covering the missile flight path. The forward-looking radar scans and maps out the approaching terrains. This information is fed to the navigation system in real time. The navigation system must then recalculate flight coordinates to avoid terrain obstacles.
