Описание:Research has found that students with LD who are in inclusive settings generally achieve as well as or better than those in more traditional, segregated settings. The educational class placement of students with learning disabilities (LD) has been the subject of extensive debate throughout North America and beyond. Less is known, however, about the impact of class placement on the self-concept of this group of students. Findings shed new light onto the complex interactions between students with LD and their environment and provide direction for future research and practice. Using Structural Equation Modeling, Whitley deftly traces the relationships between class placement, general self-concept and other individual, family, and school factors in an ecological model. Positive self-concept is an essential marker of psychological development for students and is of particular importance for those with LD, many of whom experience poor psychosocial and affective outcomes.

TRAINING MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES IN SELF-ADVOCACY/SELF-DETERMINATION SKILLS TRAINING STUDENTS IN SELF-ADVOCACY/SELF-DETERMINATION SKILLS.
Additionally, the study examined whether SA/SD training had an effect on 1) academic grades in language arts, science, social studies, and math classes for middle school students with learning disabilities, 2) the percentage of homework assignments turned in for language arts, science, social studies and math classes for middle school students with learning disabilities, and 3) the percentage correct on homework assignments in language arts, science, social studies, and math classes for middle school students with learning disabilities. Post-test results indicate that teachers generally saw an increase in at least 50% of the skills rated. Individual weekly grades did not appear to be affected by the intervention. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of SA/SD training on the performance and knowledge of SA/SD skills of seventh and eighth grade students with learning disabilities. Specifically, a multiple baseline across behaviors design was used to determine whether middle school students with learning disabilities could learn and use SA/SD skills.

Learning Disabilities and Success in Post-secondary Education. How Students Make Sense of Their Experiences at an Institution of Higher Learning
In terms of success, four themes emerged from the research findings: the influence of family and school personnel motivated the students to enroll in a post-secondary institution; support from faculty, who reduced barriers and made learning more accessible, facilitated the students' positive achievements; strong support through an office of disability services was key in the students' success; and, most importantly, the value of the participants' own determination and desire to succeed was indispensable in their academic journeys. Six post-secondary students with learning disabilities who were in line to graduate were recruited to contribute to this study. Findings indicated that participants faced two key challenges while at university: They had to cope with parental separation and learn to become more independent as they adapted to the university life; and they had to come to grips with their learning disabilities and deal with preconceptions of parents, peers, and faculty as well as their own in order to succeed in higher education. This research paper aimed to understand how students with learning disabilities made sense of their experiences in post-secondary education.
