It is curious, however, that women of all populations have evolved fat deposition in the breasts, the organs whose lactational performance men may be attempting to assess by fat deposit signals. Hence some scientists have suggested that large fatty breasts are not only an honest signal of good overall nutrition but also a deceptive specific signal of high milk-producing ability (deceptive because milk is actually secreted by breast glandular tissue rather than by breast fat). Similarly, it has been suggested that fat deposition in the hips of women worldwide is also both an honest signal of good health and a deceptive specific signal suggesting a wide birth canal (deceptive because a truly wide birth canal would minimize the risk of birth traumas but mere fat hips would not). At this point, I have to anticipate several objections to my assumption that the sexual ornamentation of women's bodies could have any evolutionary significance. Whatever the interpretation, it is of course a fact that women's bodies do possess structures functioning as sexual signals, and that men tend to be especially interested in those particular parts of women's bodies ...»

FUNCTIONALITIES OF LACTIC ACID BACTERIA. ISOLATED FROM EGYPTIAN ENVIRONMENT
Twenty eight strains showed antimicrobial activity against pathogenic E. coli. Ninety-nine strains were tested for their ability to adhere, tested microorganisms exhibited a statistically significant (P<0. 05) differentiating adhesion characteristic. 21 strains showed strong adhesion performed In vitro. The effect of 4 probiotic on E. coli was determined In vivo. Administration of E. coli produced adverse clinical signs, whereas administration of probiotic strains enhanced the immune system functions and increased the body weight gain rates in treated groups. The aims of this work were isolate and identify some probiotic strains from human origin, study some characteristics of the identified strains and study the ability of some probiotic LAB to improve the human health. Results revealed: The identified strains using SDS-PAGE technique and API System were: 1 Lb. salivarius, 2 Lb. fermentum, 7 Lb. plantarum, 27 Lb. acidophilus, 1 Lb. brevis, 3 Lb. pentosus, 3 Lb. paracasei ssp. paracasei, 7 E. faecalis, 5 E. faecium, 2 E. durans and 1 Aerococcus viridans. Most of the identified strains were tolerant to the change in pH. 32 strains were tolerant to bile salts.

Microparticle Formation by Spray-Freeze-Drying. The Influence of Atomization Conditions on Protein Secondary and Tertiary Structure
The process is analyzed after a) atomization b) atomization, freezing and thawing and c) the complete SFD process. A thorough comparison of the utilized ultrasound nozzles (including particle size distribution, temperatures and cavitation effects) is performed in the third part of this thesis. In the fourth and last part, different formulations containing a mixture of alpha-chymotrypsin and various excipients are evaluated for their stability. As the process consists of various unit operations, the stability of labile APIs, such as proteins, can be serverly impaired. However, quantification of protein secondary structure by FTIR spectroscopy can show poor reproducibility. This thesis deals with the preparation microparticles by spray-freeze-drying (SFD). The second part investigates the influence of atomization conditions on protein secondary and tertiary structure as well as residual enzyme activity during SFD. The secondary structure of a protein is known to be directly linked to its overall stability. Therefore, the first part of this thesis covers the development of a new FTIR method for objective and fast determination of protein secondary structure.
